What inspires me...

I have always been intrigued by how people interact with one another, as well as their environment. I am deeply curious to find out about the way people live and why they do so. Having lived and studied abroad, I love exploring the subtle variations in attitudes and behaviour in different social and cultural contexts.

The philosophy of design I aspire to, is to design for the needs of people. I believe designers have the task of understanding these needs and recognising the potential for innovative solutions that offer people better ways to live.

As a designer, I have always approached projects with an open mind. User research is a very important part of my process, and by observing and speaking to a wide range of people, I gain a deep understanding of the issues involved, leading to highly creative ideas and solutions.

Design Studies

Having always had an interest and passion for how thoughtful design can improve people’s everyday lives, my journey in the world of design started professionally with a number of work experience placements, followed by starting the Master of European Design (MEDes) programme at Glasgow School of Art (GSA), Scotland in 2003.

The Masters took me to two other internationally leading design schools in Europe: École Nationale Superière de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) in France and Köln International School of Design (KISD) in Germany.

A broad oulook

Through working on a variety of different projects and multidisciplinary courses, I have experienced different approaches to design and gained a greater understanding of design methodologies and practices in Europe. Learning French and German helped me understand and appreciate each culture – I now speak both languages fluently.

These experiences developed my ability to learn and adapt to new situations, something which I have embraced by undertaking a research project in Europe and thereafter by seeking my first professional design experience in France.

Professional experience

Live projects in partnership with companies to design products, services and exhibitions gave me the initial training to work to deadlines and within a budget. Working as a Designer in Limoges, France, has developed my communication, efficiency and web design skills, as well as providing a more in depth experience of the professional world.

I am currently looking to consolidate my experience in designing products and services that improve people's daily lives.

The multidisciplinary nature of design is that which drives me forward.
